Keeping Data Sharing in the Forefront...

As the year 2011 draws to a close, it is only appropriate that this Chair acknowledge the work that has been done throughout the year to keep the topic of data sharing in the forefront of all practitioners. Tammy Woodhams, senior staff associate at the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA), is our mother hen. She is the person that gathers us together for conference calls, arranges for Webinars, sets up twice yearly board meetings and quite ably represents us wherever she can attend a meeting or conference. The successes that we have had, and anticipate to have in the future, all center on Tammy and her energies. Simply put, JISP is Tammy.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the fine work done through NCJA Executive Director Cabell Cropper and his staff. Their administrative support is one thing but the mentoring and guidance that senior staff provides through Cabell is extraordinary and never overbearing.

Finally, the 14 members of the Board of Directors: Gordon Lansford, Orlando Bowman, Maury Mitchell, Scott Edson, Pat Nelson, Kathy Gattin, Terry O’Connell, Jim Harris, Catherine Plummer, Jason Hutchens, Leisa Rackelmann, Julie Lange and Robert Sudlow all donate their time and talents to this noble cause that we call information sharing. These men and women are dedicated professionals who have a common bond and belief in that the gospel we collectively preach will make a difference in the justice arena. Heartfelt thanks to all of you.

In closing, JISP is here to serve the justice community and that community is expanding and touching new vistas like health care We are constantly seeking input and, at times, new members for our Board. Please don’t hesitate to step up and be heard! There are so many challenges out there as data sharing matures and advances. The problems associated with security and data sharing privileges in themselves are enough to occupy our lives and fears for all our professional lives. We will certainly have a plethora of other topics to discuss in 2012.
