Working from the perspective that mobile information sharing needs to happen in a collaborative way, leaders in Seattle, Washington brought a cross-departmental group of stakeholders together to develop an enterprise application strategy. The City of Seattle is currently developing a mobile web portal, as well as a number of applications tailored for use on Apple and Android smart phones and tablets.
JISP members, Bruce Blood, web manager, and Robert Kaye, enterprise IT strategic planning and governance leader, for the City of Seattle talk about how they went about implementing mobile computing in Seattle City Government. They provided an overview of trends, how they address personally owned devices, what platforms they support, how they secure and manage devices, and how they are developing, acquiring and deploying applications.
